PubMed

Although PubMed is freely available, ALWAYS enter it through the Connelly Library homepage - otherwise you will not get access to our subscribed journals, nor will you be able to submit an ILL for articles we do not have.  You can access it here or from the A-Z database list. The URL for our link is: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?otool=paconlib  - notice that you must see this ending:?otool=paconlib for the link to be the La Salle University link.  With this link you will have access to Connelly Library's LibKey.  If you go directly to PubMed and not through the Connelly Library, you must check each article against our holdings by yourself and if we do not have the article, you must fill out an ILL form by yourself.  If you use the Connelly Library Link, that work is done for you!

Please note that this guide is for the new version of PubMed.  If you are linked to the legacy version, just click on the link to the new version which is at the top of the screen.  The legacy version is supposed to go away in March, 2020.

Basic Searching in PubMed

Make sure that the URL is correct.  If you select PubMed from the Database tab on the Connelly Library homepage it will be.

The basic search is a good starting place.  Enter your search terms.  You can always add more terms later.  Predictive text allows you to pick the right terms and phrases.

Click the Login button at the top right to either create an MyNCBI account or to login if you have one.
