How to Get a Card?

For your convenience, there are three different ways to apply for a library card. You may choose to do so online, in person or mailing in your application.

  • Online – Sign up and receive a temporary library card instantly! Your library card will be valid for 60 days until you verify your account. You must be 18 or older to apply online.
  • In Person – Visit any free library location and apply in person.
  • Paper Application – Download the paper application and return it to any neighborhood library.

What Can I Do with My Card?

Your Free Library card gives you access to:

Personal Identification Number (PIN)

A PIN is needed to login to many of the features of the Free Library of Philadelphia web site. With your library card number and PIN, you can access the following:

  • Electronic Resources - downloadable ebooks and audiobooks, streaming music, and hundreds of great databases
  • Your FLP library card account - renew your books, request books to be held for you
  • Live FLP online homework help

If you don't know your PIN, the FLP can e-mail it to you.

If you know your PIN and want to change it, please login to your account and change it there.

Off Site Access

Off-Site Access to Online Books and Articles

As a member of the FLP borrowing community, you are permitted access to its online resources from off site with a FLP login. The FLP username and password required for you to access online materials when not on site is located on the back of your FPL library card.
