Defining Critical Thinking

Critical thinking involves thinking with clarity and precision. A critical thinker exercises logic in his or her approach to problems and issues and is open-minded and strives to be well informed. This course will explore critical thinking and its components, including creative, divergent and visual thinking.

This general education course section develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills by studying:

  • what are the concepts and techniques used in critical thinking
  • how critical thinking is used in everyday life, academic courses and in careers
  • how critical thinking affects solving personal problems and making decisions such as career choices and larger moral and social issues.
